IFCCI under the aegis of its Mobility committee successfully organized the Indo-French Mobility conclave on 11th July 2023 at Taj Connemara, Chennai. The event was powered by Guidance Tamil Nadu and supported by the Automobile Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) and Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles (SMEV).

The event brought together an array of special guests and speakers that included keynote addresses from Mrs Lise Talbot Barré, Consul General of France in Pondicherry and Chennai, Thiru S Krishnan IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to Government of TN, Industries Department and other eminent speakers from Indian & French companies. 110+ delegates attended the conclave.

The conclave commenced with welcome address by Mr Yohann Samuel, Regional Director – Southern RegionIFCCI followed by Mrs Lise Talbot BarréConsule générale of France in Pondichéry and Chennai giving a special address.

During the Inaugural session Thiru S Krishnan IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Industries Department , Govt of TN presented the Tamil Nadu landscape for Automobile Manufacturing. Thiru S Krishnan highlighted on the following

  • Number of investors that return is the indicator that we provide a good service
  • The focus should be on mobility that aligns with sustainable practices
  • Impact on component manufacturing companies in the mobility sector and how they'll cope with the transition to EV as they require a fewer number of components.
  • All commercial vehicles must be sustainable as they are operated more frequently.
  • Incentives for shared mobility.

Next, Mr Sriram Viji, Managing Director, Brakes India Pvt Ltd gave an overview of Indian component Industry and Mr B Santhanam, CEO, Saint-Gobain, Asia Pacific & India addressed the gathering by sharing his visionary remarks on the future of Indian automobile industry. Some of the highlight points that were mentioned during their speech are,

  • The mobility sector experienced a 34.8% growth during the fiscal year of 2023
  • Sales to OEMs have seen a 43% growth
  • Imports have seen a 17% rise to the tune of 79,000 crores
  • EV constituted 1% of overall turnover in the automotive sector
  • Clean energy generation should be a focus.
  • "China's EV penetration will be 1/3 by 2023"
  • The transition to EV is inevitable.

Following the Inaugural session, conclave featured two panel discussions on sustainable mobility and latest trends in technology which provided the audience very interesting insights on the current scenario, trends, and the long-term growth prospects of the mobility industry in India.

Distinguished panellist in first panel discussion moderated by Mr Alex Koshy, Director - India Entry & M&A, SAS Partners on Sustainable Mobility : Looking ahead were,

  • Mr Ramkrishnan Ramanathan, Vice President, Born Electric Vehicle, Renault group
  • Mr Syed Junaid Altaf, Group Executive Director, FIL Industries
  • Mr Ram Divedi, CEO, Pravaig Dynamics

Second panel discussion also moderated by Mr Alex Koshy, Director - India Entry & M&A, SAS Partners featured key industry speakers

  • Mr Armelle Guerin, VP Software & ADAS,  Renault Nissan Technology & Business Center India
  • Dr T Arunvel,  Functional Head –  R&D,  Saint Gobain India Securit
  • Mr G Jayakumar, Group President & Managing Director, Valeo India
