On the occasion on the India visit of world-renowned Professor, Dr. Christophe Jaffrelot, The Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IFCCI) and Sciences Po, organized a talk and Cocktail Reception on ‘Making graduates ready for the job market: the challenges of the Indian education system’ on Tuesday, 19th November 2019 at Pullman Aerocity, New Delhi.

Prof. Jaffrelot is internationally renowned on Indian and South Asian politics, a CNRS Senior Research Fellow Centre at International Studies (CERI) & a columnist in the Indian Express

The evening commenced with a welcome by Ms. Neha Khanna, Representative to India at Sciences Po. This was followed by an opening address by Ms. Sophie Collet, Representative to India, Sciences Po.

Subsequently, Prof. Jaffrelot addressed the audience on the theme followed by a panel discussion, in the form of a fireside chat. The panel comprised of Prof. Jaffrelot and Mr. Sunit Arora, Journalist & Editor, HT Mint.

The panel revolved around the challenges of the Indian education system and how India is facing an overwhelming education challenge, or optimizing its demographic dividend, that pertains to elementary schools, higher education and vocational training. The government has focused more on the vocational training part with its “Skill India” programme, but each component of this pyramid needs to be addressed. 

In his talk, Sciences Po Professor Christophe Jaffrelot examined the education system from the primary school to the universities and the problems it faces to make Indian graduates ready for the job market.

The panel was followed by a vote of thanks by IFCCI's Director General, Ms. Payal S. Kanwar.

The event concluded with a networking session over snacks & cocktails.
