Knowledge Session on IMO 2023

IFCCI's Logistics and Supply Committee in association with CMA CGM Agencies (India) Pvt Ltd organized a Knowledge Session on IMO 2023 on Friday, 28 October 2022. IMO is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for regulating global shipping.

Ms. Aarushi Gautam, Manager - Committees & Events commenced the session and welcomed the participants alongwith Capt. Ram Iyer, Vice President, Seahorse Ship Agencies Pvt Ltd & Vice Chairperson, IFCCI Logistics & Maritime Committee and the Speaker for the Session Capt. Swaminathan Rajagopalan, Commercial Director, CMA CGM Agencies (India) Pvt Ltd.

Capt. Ram Iyer, Vice President, Seahorse Ship Agencies Pvt Ltd & Vice Chairperson, IFCCI Logistics & Maritime Committee introduced the Speaker Capt. Swaminathan Rajagopalan, Commercial Director, CMA CGM Agencies (India) Pvt Ltd. and invited the attendees to be a part of IFCCI’s Logistics and Supply Chain Committee.

Capt. Swaminathan Rajagopalan gave a detailed presentation on IMO 2023, its Vision, Vessel Regulations, consequences of the regulation, Paris Agreement & Initial IMO GHG Strategy. He also briefed the participants on how CMA CGM Agencies is preparing for the same. This was followed by an interactive Q&A and discussion with the participants and industry experts.

Some of the key topics brought up during the Q&A Session were on how the Industry is preparing for IMO 2023, the impact of the regulations as well as the importance on coordination between ports & terminals. The Session was apt and timely organised as there are important changes expected to take place in 2023 to improve marine industry's impact on the environment. Sustainability is also the focus area for the Committee for this year.

This was concluded with a Vote of thanks by Capt. Ram Iyer, Vice President, Seahorse Ship Agencies Pvt Ltd & Vice Chairperson, IFCCI Logistics & Maritime Committee.

The Session involved a discussion about global warming, greenhouse gases, CO2 Emissions, and emission reduction ways. Some of the key topics brought up during the Q&A Session were how the industry is preparing for IMO 2023, the impact of the regulations as well as the importance of coordination between ports & terminals.

The Session was apt and timely organized as there are important changes expected to take place in 2023 to improve the marine industry's impact on the environment. Sustainability is also the focus area for the Committee for this year.
