FRANCO-GERMAN DAY POTENTIAL AND OPPORTUNITIES – INDIA

Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, organized an exclusive Business Session, on the occasion of Franco-German day, on Potential and Opportunities - India, on Friday, 22nd January 2021.

The Session bought together French, German and Indian companies and highlighted the importance of sustainability in business, contribution of French and German companies to SDGs and cooperation in civil aviation sector.

The Session was commenced by welcome addresses by Ms. Payal S. Kanwar, Director General, IFCCI and by Mr. Stefan Halusa, Director General, IGCC.

Ms. Payal Kanwar briefed the participants about IFCCI and its activities across a spectrum of committees and also spoke about trade relations between India and France. She thanked GIFAS and BDLI for associating with IFCCI and IGCC for this event.

Mr. Stefan Halusa reiterated that 22nd January, being a special day for both the countries in view of entry into force of the Treaty on Franco-German Cooperation and Integration, this session is very timely. He highlighted that India has great potential and offers enormous opportunities to Germany and France and it was important to touch upon the two important aspects – civil aviation and sustainability in business.

H.E. Mr. Emmanuel Lenain, Ambassador of France to India and H.E. Mr. Walter J. Lindner, Ambassador of Germany to India shared thoughtful messages on the friendship of France and Germany and immense opportunities for French and German companies in India.

This was followed by special remarks by Mr. Kersi Hilloo, President, IGCC and Mr. Sumeet Anand, President, IFCCI who shared their thoughts on the economic, social and cultural relations between India and the two countries, Germany and France. They highlighted that Europe has a key role to play in the development of our country especially in bringing in sustainable practices in businesses and in the area of civil aviation and aerospace.

Enlightening Panel Discussions were held on Sustainability in Business and Cooperation in Civil Aviation, in partnership with GIFAS and BDLI, with esteemed Speakers gracing the occasion.

The first panel discussion on Sustainability in Business was moderated by Ms. Franciska Decuypere, Head of Territory-India, BNP Paribas who was in conversation with Mr. Alain Spohr, Managing Director, Alstom India, Ms. Lakshmi Chatterjee, Head of Strategy and Sustainability, SIEMENS Ltd, Ms. Snehhal Chitneni, Director - Communications, Sustainability & Public Affairs, L'Oréal India and Ms. Alka Bhagat, Head, Country Development, BASF India Ltd. The Session highlighted the companies’ strategic, long and transformational Journey on becoming sustainable and their strategies to give back to the community and society at large.

The second panel discussion on cooperation in civil aviation was moderated by Mr. Stefan Halusa who was in conversation with Mr. Vincent Gorry, Senior Vice President of International and European Affairs, GIFAS, Dr. Burkhard Müller, Member of BDLI Board and Owner and Managing Director of E.I.S. Electronics GmbH and Mr. Laurie Alder, Head of Customer Service and Training - South Asia, Airbus. The Session highlighted the contribution of French and German companies in civil, defense and space industries.

Ms. Payal S. Kanwar, Director General, IFCCI and Ms. Sonia Prashar, Deputy Director General, IGCC delivered the vote of thanks, thanking all speakers, participants and the event partner Alstom for their support.

The session was moderated by Ms. Sonia Prashar. The Session was attended by over 200 participants.
