Chennai : Workshop on Compliance with Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act

The Indo-French Chamber of Commerce & Industry (IFCCI) organized a workshop on the compliance of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act on Friday, 23rd March in Chennai at the Chamber. The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal Act, 2013 & Rules 2013) provides for “Employers” to take steps to minimize and address the issue of sexual harassment at workplaces. 

The event was attended by participants of Indian & French Companies from sectors like hospitality, manufacturing, automobile as well as consultants. The knowledge partner for the event was Kochhar & Co. Ms. Savitha K. Jagadeesan, Senior Partner & Ms. Sangeetha Kottail, Associate of the firm gave a presentation on the basics and nuances of the POSH Act, the broad definition of sexual harassment, the compliance policy to be put in place. Other topics that were discussed was the Inquiry Process, how to handle complaints of sexual harassment - Confidentiality, Action and Appeal. The importance and necessity of an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), its requirements, formation, role, powers and training were also touched upon. Following the presentation, there was a time of Q&A, case studies, mock scenarios and questionnaires which helped the participants to understand the topic on a practical level.
