New Delhi : High Level Breakfast Event with The Global Fund

The Indo-French Chamber of Commerce & Industry (IFCCI) in association with The Global Fund and the The Indo-Canadian Business Chamber organized a high-level breakfast meeting with selected industry bodies, Ministry of health officials; and top Indian and French healthcare companies on 'Step Up the Fight against TB' on Thursday, 7 February 2019 in New Delhi. The discussion broadly revolved around, approaches to increase the engagement of the private sector in the fight against TB in India.

As per a recent study conducted by The Global Fund, approximately 1,200 Indians die each day due to TB, that is almost half a million each year. India has the highest TB burden in the world and close to 30% of the global cases.

The Global Fund is a 21st-century partnership organization designed to accelerate the end of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria as epidemics. Founded in 2002, the Global Fund is a partnership between governments, civil society, the private sector and people affected by the diseases. The Global Fund raises and invests nearly USD4 billion a year to support programs run by local experts in countries and communities most in need. 

With the support of Smt. Preeti Sudan, Secretary, Ministry of Health, Ms. Stéphanie Seydoux, Global Ambassador for Global Health and Amy Baker, DG GLobal Affairs, Govt of Canada, an interaction was organised with the Private Sector moderated by Peter Sands, ED of the Global Fund.

The discussion was held based on insights, practical solutions and ideas on what is needed to collectively engage a broader private sector audience in the fight against TB in India wherein Dr Naresh Trehan, Chairman and MD of Medanta - The Medicity Hospital mentioned the role of industry bodies and the private sector.

France is hosting the next Global Fund replenishment conference in Lyon in October 2019. With France's strong commitment to this cause, IFCCI with the support of H.E. Mr. Alexandre Ziegler, Ambassador of France to India and The Indo-Canadian Business Chamber will jointly work on a plan to get the private sector involved through their CSR programs, technology, innovation, and so forth.
