The Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IFCCI) organised the 4th Series of the IFCCI Chennai Members Networking Meet on Friday, 30th August 2024, at the Surana and Surana’s office, Chennai, focusing on ‘Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 – A New era of Data Governance in India’.
Mr Sanjay Mehta, Partner at Surana & Surana International Attorneys, commenced the meeting with an introduction to the firm's diverse teams and their respective roles.
Ms Bhuvaneshwari R, Deputy Head of Exhibitions & Events at IFCCI, extended a warm welcome to all attendees at this 4th Series of the IFCCI Chennai Networking Meet and expressed gratitude to Surana and Surana for serving as the Knowledge Partner for this session.
The event featured an open forum where members had the opportunity to introduce themselves and their companies, facilitating a lively exchange of insights.
The session continued with a comprehensive presentation by Mr Arvind Ramesh, Associate at Surana and Surana, on the 'Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP Act)'. Covering the following key points:
- Scope and Applicability.
- Key Terms – Personal Data, Data Principal, Data Fiduciary, Consent Managers, and their equivalent under the GDPR regime
- Obligations of Data Fiduciary, Rights and Duties of Data Principal.
- Cross-Border transfer of Personal Data & how it affects the European companies having operations in India
- Governing Body and Penalties.
Representatives from 12 different companies actively participated in the discussion, offering valuable perspectives, and sharing challenges faced within their respective organizations.
