Sumit Sawhney, Renault India MD Moves To Global Role, Venkatram Mamillapalle To Take Over From March

According to people in the know, Sawhney has been the longest serving MD of a leading multinational in India.

Sumit SawhneyRenault India's managing director is moving to a global role for the French carmaker from 1st of March, two persons aware of the development said. 

Venkatram Mamillapalle, former sourcing head at Tata Motors and General Motors South Korea who was till recently heading purchase function in Russia for the Avtovaz-Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance is taking over from Sawhney. Sawhney completed his six-year stint as head of Indian operations, recently.

According to people in the know, Sawhney has been the longest serving MD of a leading multinational in India. He will continue to be on the executive committee of Africa, Middle East India region headed by Fabrice Cambolive. 

Apart from driving Renault to become the highest selling European brand in India led by the success of Kwid, Sawhney has played a key role in developing of compact car portfolio at Renault which will pave the way for the company to make a comeback. 

Under Sawhney's stint, the company managed to challenge the top two car makers Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai in the entry car with Kwid. 

Mamillapalle, in his early fifties, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Madurai Kamaraj University in Madurai city in Tamil Nadu, India has a rich experience in procurement, materials management, supply chain management, vendor development, logistics and supplier manufacturing design. 

He has worked at Tata Motors (Senior Vice President, Head of Purchasing & Supply Chain), General Motors Korea (VP Purchasing and Supply Chain), Lombardini India, Delphi Automotive Systems and Eicher Tractors.
