France cos want to invest in India: Envoy

Panaji: Ambassador of France to India Alexandre Ziegler appreciated the joint venture that HAL-Safran formed —Helicopter Engine MRO (HE-MRO) Private Limited — to maintain, repair and overhaul helicopter engines at Honda, in North Goa. Ziegler said that several French companies were keen on investing in India’s growing economy.

Chairman and managing director of HAL Suvarna Raju also hailed the joint venture, saying that it was a major step and signified that Indo-French collaboration had climbed a higher notch.

“Safran, like many other French companies, wants to invest more in India. It wants to innovate more in India. That’s where we are and why we come to India,” Zieglar said.

The Safran Group, is a French company with interests in the defence and aviation sector. SAFRAN Helicopter Engines France, a Safran subsidiary, manufactures helicopter engines that currently power most of the helicopters that currently fly in Indian airspace.

“We have here Safran, a company that is active in India for more than 60 years. It is actually equipping and providing 65% of all flying aircraft in India. It is part of India’s sky’s landscape if I may say so and it is part of the aviation industry landscape. It is already very successful in doing with HAL,” Zieglar said further.
