42nd IKBF Starts Journey Through An Indo-French Handshake

Kolkata, Jan 30 (UNI) Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Ambassador of France to India Alexandre Ziegler today inaugurated the 42nd Kolkata International Book Fair 2018 at a gala event at Salt Lake here.

Legendary actor and thespian Soumitra Chatterjee struck the hammer 42 times, signalling the years. France is the theme country of this year's fair. Miss Banerjee said, "We are deeply honoured to have our diplomatic friend France as the focal theme country. For me France is the cultural capital of the world and Kolkata is cultural capital of India. So it's nothing but an exchange of culture. Book fair is a kind of silent revolution." Mr Ziegler said, "We are proud of this association with IKBF. Both the countries have their historic tradition and our societies are also literature centric. I'm delighted to present my country amongst Kolkata's book loving people. Also this is the only Indian city open to offer French books at more than one place. We are also planning to conceive libraries with a collaboration."

Mr Soumitra Chatterjee, who also has been conferred the CESC Srishti Samman by Kolkata Book Fair committee, expressed his joy while elaborating his connection with the fair. He also spoke about his admiration of French culture. Mr Tridib Chatterjee, general secretary of Publishers' and Book Sellers' Guild said this year the fair had shifted to a new place and thanked the government for the rrangements.
