IFCCI's first Retail Committee Meeting for the FY 2022-23

IFCCI organized its first Retail Committee in a hybrid meeting on Friday, 9th September 2022.

Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry, under the aegis of its Retail Committee organized a hybrid meeting on Friday, 9th September 2022. The objective of this Session was to discuss and finalize the roadmap to organize different activities of Retail Committee in the FY 2022-23. Session began with Mrs. Shweta Pahuja (Head-Business Support Services, IFCCI) welcoming the Committee Executives and all the participants for the day, followed by the welcome address from Mr. Satyen Momaya , Chairman, IFCCI Retail Committee.

Mr. Satyen Momaya began the session by highlighting a few prospective themes and also mentioning the learnings from the past meetings especially the importance of learning how retail sector in India is evolving post pandemic through digital inclusiveness, omnichannel and D2C. Tackling the challenges posed by inflation were also discussed. Sustainability has become more then a buzz word amongst corporates and many of them are now taking sustainability into their belief system. Some brands have evolved into fewer, better stores. Theme of Advocacy was also discussed to address the challenge faced by the Retailers in India.

Next, Mr. Ganesh Parameswaran, Vice-Chairman, IFCCI Retail Committee thanked everyone present and mentioned that he is looking forward to his new role with the committee. Post this, a round of introduction for each Committee member began. Mr. Vinayak Hajare (CEO, Intergest South Asia) was the first one to introduce himself followed by Ms. Sonia Chulani (Director, Filgiri Design LLP), Mr. Sebastien Connan (Counsellor Intellectual Property - South Asia, Embassy of France in India), Mr. Rajiv Sheth (Founder & Perfumer, All Good Scents), Mr. Sameer Sah (Partner, Khaitan and Co.), Ms. Parizad Mistry (International Business Development Manager – India, Excelia Business School), Mr. Saurav Sinha (Market Leader - Food & Sustainability, CIF, South Asia Region, Bureau Veritas Group), Mr. Anupam Vohra (Proprietor, Deluxe Fine catering and Event management Services) and lastly Ms. Pavithra Anand Chugh (Head of Corporate Legal, Decathlon Sports India).

Committee members came up with many interesting ideas revolving around the retail scenario in India. For the upcoming sessions, the members wanted to hear some more realistic discussions on Retail specific issues like logistical challenges post pandemic etc. From the cost point of view, in the era of lot of social media marketing spending nowadays, members wanted to understand the best suited advertisement cost models for a specific business and how much ad spending should be there in normal media and what should be spent on the digital front.

Discussions on frequently changing regulations on legal metrology + GST and how the companies are adopting to this in e-commerce and retail stores were some of the themes suggested by the members. The Executive committee suggested that these kinds of topics can be covered under Advocacy. Future of Real estate with the Retailers in India, Digital transformation (front end- consumer + backend- logistics) were some more themes suggested but the participants.

Finally, it was summed up that IFCCI retail Committee should continue with the hybrid format to have more participation especially from the members who are unable to attend these meetings physically.
