A Cooking Workshop For A Cause
Clad in chef’s hat and apron, a group of underprivileged boys and girls learnt from the chefs at Novotel Kolkata Hotel and Residences how to toss up some delicious crepes. It was the second edition of Diplomatie Solidaire, organised by the consulate general of France, and taking part in the “cook for a cause” workshop were nine members from two centres of the NGO Life Project 4 Youths (LP4Y) — Cafe Toto and Tomorrow’s Food School.
French deputy consul Olivier Cassin too tried his hand at it, guided by executive chef Neelabh Sahay and his team. “I used to make crepes at home but there is a difference between home cooking and professional cooking. I loved the salty one we made with chocolate,” said Cassin. “The idea was to make the kids realise the power of imagination in cooking,” said Sahay.
Diplomatie Solidaire is an association created in 2017 by employees of the French department of foreign affairs, which aims at promoting projects in four fields — child development, education, health and women’s rights. The second edition, of which this event was a part, was held worldwide from June 18 to 24.
