Driving Through Paris Aboard An Old Car, Edition 2019

On Sunday, 13 January 2019, many visited Paris aboard an old car,  thanks to an event called "La Traversée de Paris en Ancienne" which was a crazy ride with 700 cars. The event departed from the Château de Vincennes for an original 30-kilometer tour through the capital with vehicles from over 30 years ago.

The Taversée de Paris en Anciennes is one of the biggest events in Paris for old car amateurs. For a morning, Paris streets are enlivened with old cars, motorbikes, bicycles, tractors, buses, light goods vehicles for a crazy ride finishing at the Château de Vincennes.

This Sunday January 13, 2019, the Traversée de Paris en Anciennes will pay tribute to comics, a theme likely to please children as much as adults.

Who never dreamt of experiencing the frantic adventures of our comics heroes? In many stories, Paris is the perfect playground for the most muddled epics. Many Parisian monuments have been enhanced and immortalized by Jacques Tardi's, Edgar P. Jacobs', Jean Van Hamme's talents and by other artists from the 9th art.

In the same line, cars appear in their best lights and are a true part of the plot. They sometimes even reveal more about the personality of their owners. What would Gaston be without his Fiat 509? Hasn't the Seat Ibiza been inspired by Michel Vaillant series of which the main theme is motor sport?

Among the emblematic cars often sketched in comics and taking part in the Traversée de Paris, they have the 2CV (Tintin, Billy & Buddy), Ric Hochet's Porsche, Ford T, heroin of a 15-book series by Francis and Maurice Tillieux, Jeep (Tintin), Morgan (Blake and Mortimer), Cafillac, (Canardo), Dauphine (Lucien series), DS, Beetle, Fiat 500, Front-wheel drive (Les Enquêtes de Margot).

In comics, some of the authors give free rein to their imagination: Spirou's Turbotraction by Franquin or Jean-Claude Mézières and his flying taxis. These motor curiosities are not part of the Traversée de Paris.

The route will follow the steps of Adèles Blanc-Sec, Nestor Burma, Blake and Mortimer, Michel Vaillant and even Lucky Luke... A unique experience where fiction will rub shoulders with reality. A part of the cars will be displayed from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. (according to the weather) on the square in front of the Château de Vincennes.

The procession of enthusiasts invites little ones and grown-ups to take part in a unique show in the heart of Parisian heritage, aboard one of the participating double-decker buses (reservation required, limited number of places – €10), or in one of the streets selected for the ride.
