Off love, longing and coming of age
The author’s words fell upon the ears of the audience in ways that brought out the beautiful and the very romantic personification of the quintessential city of Paris. In his debut novel titled, Harp, launched on March 27, Nidhi Dalmia expresses the deep impression that the enchanting country of France left on him in his youth. “Traversing through India, Europe and USA, it narrates the story of three young people as they engage with the cultural, sexual, student revolutions, and the music of the sixties,” says Dalmia.
It’s set in the context of the zeitgeist and idealism of the late sixties and is about love, longing and coming of age.
Launched by the French Ambassador to India, Alexandre Ziegler, on March 27, at his residence, Harp highlights the friendship between India and France as well as the affection and admiration of the two peoples for each other, the ambassador said. He emphasised the need for more young Indians to travel to and study in France. He said there was potential to expand enormously the number of Indian students studying in France.
Writing a book had been on his mind for long. In letters, he finds the greatest solace. Consumed with professional commitments, he had to keep his writing on the back burner. But finally one day, he got down to working on it, and now it’s on stands.
The cocktail reception following the launch carried the conversation to Ziegler’s lawns. Among those present, were novelist Manju Kapur, entrepreneur VN Dalmia; art historian Yashodhara Dalmia; art curator Dr Alka Pande; author Bhaichand Patel; 13.
