H E Thierry MathouAmbassador of France to India

Thierry Mathou is the French ambassador to India since 17 September 2023. He is an expert on Asia and has spent more than 25 years of his career in this region, including as Ambassador to Burma, the Philippines and Thailand. He was also Consulate General in Shanghai and Director of Asia and Oceania at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he played a key role in the implementation of the French strategy for Indo-Pacific. In addition to his diplomatic duties, he is a recognized researcher in Himalayan studies with expertise on Bhutan, the subject of his doctoral thesis. He has been associated with the CNRS, Centre D'études Himalayennes since 1989 and has published numerous works on the geopolitics of the Himalayan Arc. He is multilingual and graduated from several prestigious institutions, he is also a knight of the Legion of Honor
