Indo-French Chamber of Commerce & Industry (IFCCI), in association with Solomon & Co., organized a Webinar on 'Succession & Inheritance Laws in India' on 31st January 2024.
This webinar navigated the legalities and provided a clear understanding of inheritance rights and procedures in India. The participants learnt about testamentary succession, will-making, intestate succession, identification & valuation of assets, considerations for NRIs and legalities needed to know to secure rightful inheritance or prepare for passing on legacy.
Ms. Shweta Pahuja, Regional Director for the Western Region, IFCCI welcomed the participants and set the tone for the session.
Ms. Michelle Solomon Le Page, Partner, Solomon & Co. led the session with her presentation covering the testamentary succession, importance of making a will and considerations for NRIs. The intricacies of the inheritance laws of to whom and how to bequeath, how to prove your will was presented with concrete examples.
Ms. Aishwarya Bedekar, Senior Associate, Solomon & Co., presented the details of Intestate Succession. The details of the Hindu Laws, Mohammedan Laws, Christian Laws, and Parsi Laws of Intestate Succession were explained in detail. Further to this, details of movable, immovable property, key points to keep in mind while approaching an advocate were also discussed with examples. This was followed by an engaging question and answer session with the participants.
