High-Level Roundtable Discussion with MIDC on “The Ease of Doing Business in Maharashtra”

The Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IFCCI), in partnership with the Regional Economic Department (SER)of theEmbassy of France in India, Rödl & Partner and with the support of the Consulate General of France in Mumbai, organized a High-Level Roundtable Discussion with the CEO of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) on Thursday, 12th June 2025, at the MIDC office in Andheri, Mumbai.
The roundtable commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Shweta Pahuja, Regional Director (West), followed by a special address from Mr. Sami Bouakaze, Hon’ble Deputy Consul, Consulate General of France in Mumbai. The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Benoit Gauthier, Head of the Regional Economic Service, Embassy of France in India.
Followed by an insightful presentation by MIDC highlighting Maharashtra’s position as a leading industrial powerhouse in India.
The discussion focused on the Whitepaper: ‘Ease of Doing Business in Maharashtra’ presented by Mr. Rushak Tadkalkar, Partner at Rödl & Partner. The whitepaper was based on a comprehensive, anonymous survey conducted among French companies operating in Maharashtra, along with secondary research from the MAITRI portal. It highlighted key operational challenges, strategic opportunities, and offered suggestions & recommendations to enhance the ease of doing business in the state.
The roundtable brought together over 25 CEOs from leading French companies across sectors such as automotive, renewable energy, chemicals, IT, transport, consumer goods, and construction. The forum served as a platform for participants to raise concerns related to MIDC industrial areas, while also sharing best practices and success stories that have contributed to their operational efficiency in the region.
An engaging interactive discussion followed the presentation, during which Mr. P. Velrasu, CEO of MIDC, addressed queries from participants and shared insights on MIDC’s ongoing reforms and initiatives to build an investor-friendly ecosystem.
On this occasion, IFCCI and MIDC renewed their strategic partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at facilitating and encouraging French investments in Maharashtra. The MOU was signed by Mr. Benoit Renard, Vice President, IFCCI and Managing Director, Air Liquide India, and Mr. P. Velrasu, CEO of MIDC. This renewal marks a significant milestone in reinforcing the Indo-French industrial corridor, promoting innovation, sustainable growth and mutual prosperity.
The event concluded with a networking lunch, offering participants an excellent opportunity to connect with MIDC officials and fellow industry peers.
