Chennai: Indo-French Innovation Conference

The Indo-French Innovation Conference 2018 was organised on 28th June at IIT Madras Research Park as an initiative of the IFCCI’s Industries committee. Through this conference, the committee intends to kick start the series of initiatives this year. The inaugural session started with Ms. Merlin Simon, Regional Director- IFCCI Southern Chapter welcoming the participants and guests to the conference. Following this, the Chief Guest for the event Ms. Catherine Suard, Consul General of France to Pondicherry and Chennai addressed the gathering highlighting on the relevance of the topic for the conference.

On behalf of the Industries Committee, Mr. Atul Renavikar – Executive Director, Michelin India & Vice-Chairman of IFCCI’s Industries Committees then introduced the committee and its activities to the gathering.  

The second session was a very interesting panel discussion with experts from the industrial and educational domains. The speakers for the session were Mr. R Chandrasekaran -  Executive Vice Chairman of Cognizant India, Mr. Jean-François Ambrosio - Trade and Investment Commissioner for South India and Managing Director of Bangalore and Chennai offices at Business France, Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi - Director of IIT Madras, Mr. Mukesh Chawla – COO Legrand India and Mr. Mohan Rao – Principal Advisor Technical at SAS Partners.The session was moderated by Mr. Anand Bhushan - Head for the Chennai Office and Partner at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. The discussions were followed by a brief Q & A session.

A presentation of a successful case study on digitalisation in manufacturing was presented by Mr. Kumaradevan – Head of IT and Internal Controls at Saint-Gobain India. Mr. Kumaradevan also took a few questions from the participants following this. The conference was sponsored by Legrand India and the committee activities are supported by Krishnomics Legal.

The event saw a participation of around 40-50 participants and was concluded by a networking high tea.

The Industries Committee organised its first meeting on the 28th June 2018 led by the Chairman Mr. Jean-Charles Thuard. The meeting followed the Indo-French Innovation Conference 2018. The discussion began with a small introduction on the committee and thereby describing its objectives. With participation from around 10 participants, the discussion focused on the way forward for the committee. Various suggestions and feedback received the participants were noted with regard to communication tools, topics of interest in terms of events and developing the engagement of fellow committee members. 

The committee dispersed after deciding on the upcoming actions and activities for the committee in the coming quarter.
